So many things with this book. 1) it was boring. 2) I'm 70% through and we don't know why he cheated on her as a teenager other than to be told he was young and did things wrong. 3) everyone has unresolved relationships - frankly they are all dysfunctional - she doesn't trust her mom to be responsible even though her mom has been sober for 4 years, he has issues with his dad, which again 70% through and we don't know what they are. I suspect the father had something to do with the cheating, but I'm not interested enough to keep reading. 4) It's repetitive. Either she likes him, hates him, loves him. Personally I don't care that he was a teenager, I'm in the once a cheater, always a cheater side. 5) then we have the brother with leukemia, the sister who left home, got married, had a baby, widowed and now new boyfriend is dead and she's on the run after leaving her child ALONE. I mean it has the elements to be a good story, but it just does not do anything for me at all. Did I say it was boring? Repetitive and boring? I re read the first 3 books to be ready for this one and I was so happy reading this one.Whisper Lake seems to be a small town that has lots of high school friends that either stayed around or have come back for one reason or another.Hannah is a nurse who has not had an easy past. She had to take care of her younger brother and her mother after the family lost their dad and oldest child. their sister. Time has gone on and now for the most part Hannah just has her mom to take care of now. She was never able to get over losing her husband and their daughter disappearing shortly after.Jake was Hannah's high school boyfriend, the one all firsts were done with and now that they are both back in town Jake has been trying to get Hannah to date him again. Hannah has no interest in doing that after all the pain he caused her.However when a little boy needs them to get over themselves they do. What follows is my favorite book in the series so far.Where as I mentioned I re read the first three books in the series you do not have to but I recommend so you know the people in town.Very much enjoyed!
